Meet Alba Gatto
National Volunteer Week
Our admin support ventures out from behind the computer For more than a decade, Alba has been a familiar and friendly presence at Ozanam House; someone whose quiet dedication has become part of the rhythm of the place.
What began eleven years ago as a search for structure and meaning has grown into something much richer: a connection to people, purpose, and community.
On Wednesdays, you’ll find Alba working behind the scenes, carefully supporting the administrative side of volunteering. From welcoming new volunteers into the system to keeping records up to date, her work ensures everything runs smoothly. More recently, she’s added a new splash of energy to her week: Tuesdays are now smoothie days. What started as a simple idea has quickly become a favourite, bringing smiles and a refreshing boost to many in the Participation Program.
But for Alba, it’s never just about the tasks. It’s the people who make it special. She treasures the conversations, the shared laughs, and even the small, everyday moments offering a smile, saying hello, or simply taking an interest in someone’s day. These interactions, she says, are what truly matter.
What keeps Alba coming back year after year is the sense of connection and the holistic care she sees all around her. There’s a genuine warmth at Ozanam House between staff, volunteers, and residents and she feels proud to be part of it.
Volunteering has even brought a few surprises along the way. An Apple enthusiast at heart, Alba has found herself navigating Microsoft systems proof that it’s never too late to learn something new.
If you ask Alba what she’d say to someone considering volunteering, her answer is simple: if you want to make a difference and feel valued while doing it, this is the place to be.
A heartfelt thank you from all of us at Ozanam House, VincentCare
